View Full Version : Wheel Spacers....

I have been looking thru the websites for Hyundai aftermarket items. I have been noticing that wheel spacers seem to be popular, i guess. Does anyone have any? Do they work well? Are there safety concerns?
I heard that outting these on will shorten your actual lug studs, leaving not much for the original lug bolt to tighten on, thus could result in a weak fitment, or cause the wheels to rip off if cornering at high speeds.
Can anyone fill me in on these, because I have actually thought of getting some, but want to research it first. Is any one product better than another? Where would be best to get them from verses where not too get them from?
Thanks,
GDA
If you get them, get the ones that have their own studs. The ones that are like a big washer with 5 holes drilled in them are not safe. They move the stress point much further out on the studs than what was intended and there have been a few cases of breakage. I'm sure it's like a 1 in 10,000 chance that you'll have problems with them, but just spend the extra few dollars and you won't have to worry about it. ;)

better get wheel with proper fitment instead of fitting them with spacers...

Yeah, I curious about them. So then if I decide to get wheels that would make it look like they are sticking out a little more, is that called an "offset"? And having the wheels stick out this way, does it tend to cause fender problems? Like would I need to roll fenders or something?
I guess when I get a new set, I would like to have them look like 1" out from the body. I plan on making some fender flares, so I'm kinda getting an idea for looks and lining up the body line with tires/wheels.
As for spacers, would make sense to get ones with studs. The others you described were what I may have though of that caused the problem. I'd have to find ones that were 4 lug since I have the 98 Accent and the 114.3 lug fitment. But I'll look at wheels themselves that would acheive the required look I'm going for.

That would be the case if this was a perfect world, but they don't make wheels with perfect offsets for every vehicle in every style. That's why they made spacers in the first place. ;)

Do you know where a decent place to look for the spacers you were describing. 4 lug pattern? I curious on there cost. I have seen some cost about $80.00 for 2. Does that sound correct?
