This is more or less the same thing I said in the PM to you but it is good information for everyone.
Check with whatever association you will be racing with. Find out what they suggest and require. That is the only real way to be certain if a helmet you are planning on buying is going to pass tech.
The helmet in question is technically a motorcycle helmet and carries the associated M certification. Some racing bodies will accept this and others, like NASA, will insist on the SA certification for its fire repellent qualities. This is also why, in general, SA helmets will cost a bit more.
On another note I suggest only open face helments to anyone with airbags. If you get into a situation and you deploy the airbags (god forbid) it can get caught on the front of a closed face helmet and do 1 of 2 things.
1) grap the front of the helmet and yank it forward as it quickly decompresses (almost as fast is it inflates). This can and has caused serious neck injuries and killed people.
2) cover any and all vent holes on the front of the face and potentially cause asphyxiation. Again, this can and has killed people.
This is why NASCAR, F1 or any other professional race cars do not equip their cars with airbags. They have come up with much safer ways of protecting their drivers. Airbags are great for street cars with 3 point belts or people, like me, who don't wear seat belts.
Another note on helmet selection is, if possible, go to a shop and try on as many as possible. Everyone's dome is made differently and a mass produced helmet may not fit you the way you would like. Most times, mail order places won't take back something that could potentially spread lice or be used, sweat in and returned without being able to tell. Pretty much once it's yours, it's yours.

Thanks for the PM bro!
Yeah, I am kind of familiar with the SCCA solo rules, I looked them up some more last night. I finally decided on this one.
Quote from the Winged Warrior post I made:
OK,
I just got off the phone with Alex at Extreme Supply's Bell Store and he was great as was the price for the M2000 Helmet. He help me with letting me know that there was an actual label stating the ratings (my last helmet did not have one from Simpson...long story short - more difficult when trying to auto-x when there is no label stating the rating).
So my total bill: $49.99 plus $12.00 shipping w/no tax. I think this was a steel!
Now they have other helmets there that are a screaming deal as well. He, Alex, stated that if you call in he would drop the price some more on their regular helmets. How much...I do not know. I just mentioned that I would link the site of theirs here and that a few were interested in their helmets. So maybe mention my name...Jason Massey and the Winged Warrior stuff and they should hook you up maybe
Just thought I might spread the word a little!
Here is there site link:

Here is the Helmet I bought: http://www.thebellstore.com/Helmets/tourlitesc.html
Well, that was it guys. They have like 150 or so left of the discounted/discontinued helmets I got.
Cheers
So, there you have it!

I have a simular helmet like that for RallyX. Works great. I'm jones'n for a rally now...geez.
I was told that helemt now have to be DOT approved for 2002 and up. So anything made 2001 and less are not allowed. Not sure why, even if it was new they wouldn't allow it. they check the tags in the helmets before races. Then if you're registered with the group then they'll add it to your personal info card to clear you from having to look any more.
but I think it'll work fine for you. I don't see a need to buy a helmet for $200 or more for the same rating and materials. I mean if it keeps you from becoming "Special Ed", then thats what counts.
Good luck!! Now I'm gonna have to find some RallyX dates.
