Recently Time Warner (Road Runner.. aka the most virus ridden network in the land) bought Adelphia and Comcast cable out in my area, thus, leading to a full monopoly. They want to transition my account over to RR and sent me the following easy steps.

Welcome To Road Runner High Speed Online

Hello,

Recently, Time Warner Cable replaced Comcast as your cable and high speed Internet provider and transitioned your Comcast Internet service to Road Runner High Speed Online.

Your Comcast email, folders and address book have been successfully transferred, and any email sent to your Comcast email address is being forwarded to your new Road Runner mailbox.

To begin using your new Road Runner email, all you need to do is activate your account. Please read this email in its entirety to ensure you have all the information needed to properly activate your Road Runner account on your computer.

If you use another email address, like Yahoo! or Hotmail, as your primary account this will not impact any of your information, emails, personal folders, etc. We do, however, recommend you activate your Road Runner account so that you can begin taking advantage of all it offers.

Activate your Road Runner email account
To begin using your new Road Runner account, you simply need to activate it by following the steps below:

1.. Go to the Road Runner Activation Wizard at http://activation.rr.com.
2.. Select "I am a Time Warner Cable Road Runner customer (including former Comcast and Adelphia customers)"
3.. This will begin the activation process. The wizard walks you through the easy process of configuring your PC or MAC for Road Runner, and sets up your email account on your desktop email application (such as Outlook or Apple Mail). The Wizard also configures your existing sub accounts.
If you have already completed the Activation Wizard and have successfully set up your new Road Runner account, you do not need to complete this process again.

Some things to remember when activating your new Road Runner Account

1.. For help with the Activation Wizard process, please visit www.help.rr.com/welcome before you begin the Activation Wizard.

You'll find step-by-step instructions and other helpful tips about activating your account.
2.. Please ensure you have the latest version of your Internet browser installed. The Activation Wizard requires Internet Explorer 6.x and above, or Safari 1.x.

3.. The Activation Wizard requires ActiveX controls. If you are prompted to download ActiveX controls, please do so to ensure proper activation occurs by clicking on the yellow bar, as pictured.

4.. If you have a firewall installed on your computer, you may be prompted to allow a program from the software publisher SupportSoft access to the Internet. Please do so to ensure proper activation occurs.

5.. During the activation process, you will have the opportunity to set up your new Road Runner email on your desktop email application (Outlook, Outlook Express, Entourage, or Apple Mail). To do this, enter your Road Runner user name and password on the Account Information screen.
What is my new Road Runner user name and password?

a.. Your new Road Runner user name is the first part of your Comcast.net email account. For example, if your email was username@comcast.net, your user name will be username.

b.. Your password is the same password that you used with your Comcast email account. If you need a new password, visit www.help.rr.com/welcome and click on the Password Tool to reset your password.

6.. On the Account Information page, you will be asked for an account number. If you don't have your account number handy, you may leave this field empty.

7.. The Activation Wizard will configure existing Comcast sub accounts that you have enabled on your desktop email application.

8.. If you have multiple computers in your home and you use them to check your Road Runner emails, you should run the Activation Wizard on each computer. To make this easier for you, we will send this email to all of your Comcast.net email accounts.

9.. Duplicate copies of your emails may appear temporarily in your Comcast account, as well as your new Road Runner account. This will stop after the transition process is complete.
If you experience any problems during the Activation Wizard process, don't worry - you can always start the process over from the beginning. And remember, you can visit www.help.rr.com/welcome at any time for step-by-step assistance with the Activation Wizard.

Your new email address
Your new Road Runner email address isn't much different from your old one - only the last part of it is changing.

Your user name is the same one you had with your Comcast email. For example, if you were Username@comcast.net, your Road Runner email address is Username@oh.rr.com.

Your email password is the also the same one you used with your Comcast email.

Once you have completed the Activation Wizard, you can immediately begin using your new Road Runner email address.

Your Comcast email will be forwarded to your Road Runner account for one year, but be sure to let your friends and family know that your email address has changed as soon as possible.

Update your Internet Security Software
Your Comcast security software will expire soon, so don't wait to install the Road Runner Internet Security Suite. Simply click on the Sign up for Internet Security Suite from CA(free) link on the last page of the Activation Wizard, and follow the prompts to register for and install your free security software.*

Learn more about Road Runner High Speed Online
Learn more about your Road Runner service by taking a tour at www.rr.com/tour/comcast, and find out about all the exciting benefits and features you will receive as a Road Runner customer.

Now that you have been transitioned to Road Runner High Speed Online, your Comcast services will change, and after 90 days, they will no longer be available. Road Runner offers a similar selection of services, plus some exciting new features. Be sure to activate your new Road Runner account as soon as possible so you can take advantage of all that Road Runner has to offer.

Time Warner Cable is delighted to welcome you as a Road Runner High Speed Online customer. Thank you for your cooperation and patience while we transition your service, and for allowing us to be a guest in your home.

Sincerely,

Stephen R. Fry
President, Time Warner Cable
Northeast Ohio and Western PA Division

o.. and btw.... they want to install an activeX object on my computer to configure my pc for me. BULL****! they require IE only as well which is bad experience to anyone not using IE.

my response to that email was...

1. Your instructions are too long

2. You provide a horrible first impression for anyone using a non-IE browser

3. I am not, will not, and will never all you to install any software,
pre-configure anything, or utilize any custom active-x control on my PC

Send me the POP3 and SMTP information and I will configure it myself in 3
seconds.
