awhile back i had dc headers but got pulled over and sold it.. and livin in cali.. i rather not risk it.. but with our stock headers.. is it possible we'll see gains equal to aftermarket headers if we were to port them and im sure what it was but somethin about jet hot dryin (i think im way off right here)?? i guess it somethin to withstand the heat...

I dont believe so. I think the bends and lenth of the headers actually are more important than the actual diameter.

Yea Deez, a free-er flow of exhaust air, though u lose alittle on the low end, you gain it up top.

i dont think the tubes are thick enough to port them and like deez said runner length and what not more important and i believe you are reffering to cermaic coating for the heat sheilding

Been there, done that with my j2...we went to the trouble of pulling the manifolds out only to find that they were so well cast that no porting really could be done...they were at their full potential already...sadly enough...so I'm guessing newer Hyundais would have manifolds that are just as well made...

The main thing about headers is equal length an also how they pull the exhaust flow out of the engine (ie length and tube design) . And nether is good when its stock unless you have a pasta rocket lol

The question I have is why would you remove a CARB exempt product from your car. IF they were real DC Sports headers, then you shouldn't have had to remove them. Not to mention, they would not affect your emissions unless they remove a catalytic converter or two.

Yeah, they are not CARB excempt, they are race headers, so no cats, unless you put one on, and then still not legal. I am lucky enough in Texas that unless you have a CEL, they don't even bother looking! :thumb:

When adding an aftermarket header you eliminate the close mount cats which is an important part of a Cali emissions car. The only way you may be able to get by is to have a cat installed between the header and the mid-pipe then extend the last sensor to the midpipe after the cat. Then you take a chance of still ..... not passing an emissions test.

I don't know of any aftermarket Hyundai headers that have close mount cats.

Me either. I didn't know the V6 Tibby had close mount cats either, so it would make sense that it's not legal. I tried though...
