View Full Version : Relocating hood switch?
Anyone ever done that or have another suggestion? Because I have spacers on my hood, it doesn't sit low enough to hit the switch so my car thinks the hood is always open. It's not really a big deal... the only thing is that the lights don't flash whenever I lock the car. So I have to stay close enough to hear that the doors locked.
If you've relocated yours or have another suggetion, post up!

add some washers, or something to extend the peice that hits the hood switch...
There is nothing to add washers to. It's just a flat spot on the underside of the hood.

there is a little rubber grommet that hit the switch....
It's not on my CF hood. lol I was thinking I could mount something to the underside of my hood, but I would have to glue it on or something. lol

yeah get that rubber grommet from your oem hood, and make it work foo...you can use clear silicone to attache it to your CF hood, this way you can remove it when you get rid of it, and there wont be any trace of you attaching it there,

Wow that'd suck if you had an alarm or something that went off if your hood was open... is this a common problem? Or just because of the hood spacers?

CF hood and the spacers...it also can cause a parasitic draw if he had something that was attached to it...like an aftermarket alarm, and it started to draw more than .050 ma of current on a constant. (can we say dead battery in a short time)
disconnect the harness....
disconnect the harness....
Wouldn't that be the same as it is now? The car would still think the hood is up. lol

if i remember right, that bracket the switch is around is a flimsy little L bracket. cant u bend it up?
that, or it is just a crappy lil soft plastic pin. get a quarter, and duct tape the quarter down around it. problem solved.
Yeah, I thought about just taping it down, but I don't like rigging stuff... If it's there, I want it to work properly. lol

disconnect and jump the wire.
OR do it the right way and stick something to the underside of the hood

I had the same problem after my wreck, my alarm would randomly go off.
I took three nickels and taped them together and taped it down into the switch, so it thinks it's always closed.
Not the best way, but it works.

if u dont like tape and want to be super clean, drill a small 1/8" hole through the side of the housing and through the pin itself. then stick a nail or piece of wire through there and tie it down. that is about the last idea i have.
I took the rubber bumper from the stock hood, cut the knub off the back, and used weatherstrip adhesive to secure it. Works great.

Disconnecting the harness might work, depends on what type of circuit (open or closed) it is that makes the alarm work. If it is a open circuit when the hood is closed, you can just disconnect the harness, but if is a closed circuit just get you a jumper wire, that way it is able to be hidden. Most of the time they are open circuits, but Hyundais does have some strange wiring I've noticed. You can also redo the switches location closer to the front so it can get the right amount of press down contact! L8R
