Is anyone else here having to worry about getting a network of computers compliant with the new daylight savings time law?

I am working on and and testing a longon script to edit the registry because I really don't want to have to vist ~250pcs spread over 50 miles to apply the hotfix.

what is everyone else doing?

To be honest, I have no idea what Clarian did for the change, I don't touch that part of AD. I could ask around though, they usually have quick efficient ways of getting everything done.

microsoft is going to put out a patch for all of their products. if you got the email from them they state that. i dont know what other software vendors will use, but most of them i believe pull the time from windows so they will be ok.

The deal is win98/2000 are not supported
neither is win XP unless you are on SP2

There are patches for XP SP2 in the windows updates but they are under the 'custom' updates not the 'recommended'. Whether this will change or not is yet to be seen.

Vista/Longhorn(server 2007) ship with the update

Microsoft does give details on how to edit the registry to the new settings. I have scripted that and it seems to be working on all my different machines that I have tested so far (98/2000/xp no sp/sp1/sp2/2000 server/2003 server) after i played with it a little bit.

It looks like as long as none of these machines take a crap on me from screwing around in the registry i will be rolling this out with a logon script.

Yay for not having to visit ~250 machines at 9 locations spread of 50 miles.

I hear you there. My partner and I administer around 1000 WoW's in three hospitals and most of the time, we don't have to touch any of them.

But what is the purpose of the patches? Is there a change to daylight savings or something?

yes....it starts 3 weeks earlier and ends a week later now because of the energy act signed a year and a half ago

it is now 2nd sunday in march (march 11) and first sunday in nov (nov 4th.) instead of april and october like it used to be.

wow... didn't hear about that one. Why did it take them so long to make the change if they passed the law in 2005? lol

nobody knows they even passed that as part of the bill - nor do they care.

how many peoples lives matter in the slightest to daylight savings time? Most people dont hardly even know when it originally was -- they just change the clock when the people on the news, radio, MtV, their boss, ect tell them too...:playball:
